Online Training for Small Businesses

The Challenge
The Purchasing Department of the City of Austin decided to transition from traditional instructor-led /in-classroom training to provide online courses for their vendors during the pandemic. They also wanted to support business owners who want to be able to go through the process to be a vendor on their own without needing to find someone that works at the City of Austin to talk to.
Our Solution
Through a partnership with Events Unleashed, we provided learning design consulting and transformed their existing content into a series of short self-paced video modules to allow vendors learn the content they need at the moment they need it to complete their process. We went through the Discovery phrase with their team to define their purpose and possible solution. After our Learning Designer interviewed a few of their existing vendors to understand their experience better, a user persona was created to define the audience we were creating for. The solution was defined and explained from our research in our recommendation strategy.
Then, our Learning Designer structured the learning objectives and content and worked with the SMEs to confirm the content was align. The Copy Editor ensured the readability and remove any grammar errors before the Voice-Over Narrator recorded the audio and the Video Designer created the animated walk-through videos. Along with the modularized learning, we collaborated with their team to update their web page with designs from our UX Designer and recommended an update to their user flow.
The Results
With an updated user flow, web site design to include a video from their executive, (2) introduction to their main topics, almost 30 modularized learning videos, and embedded on-demand videos throughout their process, we were able to enhance the online learning experience for their small business vendors and increase the number of business owners who become vendors with the City of Austin.
